Two cats, one white and one black, resided in a field close to a meat restaurant. The field was filled with mice, but the cats needed to hunt them before they could eat. However, the enticing scent of grilled meat from the restaurant constantly lured the cats.

One day, they approached the restaurant entrance, hoping for a taste. After waiting all day, they finally got a small piece of delicious, medium-rare entrecote. The next day, eager for more, they returned to the restaurant entrance with even greater anticipation. Having never tasted grilled meat before, they found it irresistible.

For a few fortunate days that week, they received scraps from the restaurant patrons. But soon, the black cat decided to go back to hunting, preferring the freedom of catching his own food whenever he wanted and in the quantity he needed. The white cat, however, chose to stay near the restaurant, relying on people’s kindness for an easy meal.

Over time, the white cat forgot how to hunt. He became dependent on begging and grew weaker and thinner. Eventually, on a cold winter night, he died of hunger.

Meanwhile, the black cat grew big and strong, thriving in the wild, and to this day, he remains self-sufficient and free.
